Surgical Advances in Dental Implants
What is a surgical guide?
Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Lines and Dr. Hoaglin use guided surgery to ensure your implants are placed properly and accurately. Guided surgery helps to improve the success rate and longevity of your dental implants. The guide is designed using software and a 3-D view of your anatomy and allows precise placement of your implant, avoiding important structures such as your sinuses or nerves. The guide allows the surgeon to perform less surgery and improves success rates to nearly 100%! However, guided surgery is not necessary in all cases.
There are some situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures. Dental implant placement is a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. Drs. Lines or Hoaglin performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.
